Writing SEO blogs

Why write blog articles to better rank your local business?

For a website to rank better locally on Google, it is a good idea to have blog articles that cover different aspects of its main subject.

A ranking metric in Google is called "topical authority." The more a website covers different aspects of a specific topic, the more points it gains on this ranking metric.

The higher your "topical authority" is, the better your website pages will rank on Google all pages associated with that topic.

Example of SEO Blogs for a local business website

Let's say you are a Residential and commercial contractor for Drywall repair and installation in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

In this context, your main topic for your local business website will be "drywall."

Therefore, if you want your home page to better rank and generate more leads for the main keyword you are after, writing what is known as "supporting content" would be a good idea.

The "supporting content" is essentially blog articles that fulfill queries related to the main topic (i.e. drywall).

So, in this instance, examples of blog articles would be:

  • The Benefits of Hiring a Professional Drywall Contractor
  • Top 5 Drywall Repair Tips for Homeowners
  • How to Choose the Right Drywall for Your Home
  • The Importance of Proper Drywall Installation
  • Common Drywall Problems and How to Fix Them
  • Drywall Finishing Techniques: A Comprehensive Guide

The more adjacent subjects we cover, the better the overall domains' chances to rank higher increases.

Linking strategy of Blog postings

To effectively generate leads from the supporting content, we all set links to the home page from each blog posting.

This internal linking strategy will likely help our home page rank for the most important keyword, "drywall kingston".

We will also ensure that each blog article links to all the other blog articles.

Researching For Blog Topics to Write About

When conducting which topics to cover for the first 5 blog postings, I looked at what topics the top SERP domains for the main keyword have covered.

I then looked at the other domains from SERP results for the same niche in bigger cities. For example, when I googled "drywall Toronto," showed up. Under their blog section, there was many of topics I could replicate for my website to write blog articles about.

After conducting all the research, I came up with these topics:

  • Drywall Taping Tools
  • Drywall Alternatives for Garage
  • Types Of Drywall
  • How To Tape Drywall
  • All About Popcorn Ceilings

I prompted chatGPT to generate the blog's content and images and integrated a Blog Posting schema.

Writing Service Pages

A well-structured local business website must have service pages that describe to the public some of the details it offers for each service.

To identify all the generic services offered around the keyword "drywall," I prompted chatGPT to give me all the most queried and popular services needed in the drywall contracting industry. It came up with the following:

  • Drywall Installation
  • Drywall Repair and Patching
  • Drywall Finishing and Texturing
  • Steel Stud Framing
  • Blown and Batt Insulation
  • Suspended T-Bar Ceilings
  • Textured and Coffered Ceilings
  • Cove Moldings and Bulkheads
  • Spray Priming and Painting

These were the services I used to base my pages on.

I prompted chatGPT to generate all of the service page content and images.

Each page links to the home page.

Other Pages

A local business website needs to have other miscellaneous pages to be comprehensive and enhance the website's SEO. These include:

  • Request Free Quote
  • Organization
  • About Us
  • Legal Disclaimer
  • Privacy Policy
  • Sitemap

Request Free Quote Page

This page contains a form for prospects to fill out and submit if they want to get a quote or contact us.

Organization Page

I implemented the Organization schema on it and also integrated a Google Maps pinned on the business' location.

About Us Page

I implemented a Webpage schema. The page describes the fictitious drywall contractor.

The content is AI-generated.

Legal Disclaimer & Privacy Policy Pages

All AI-generated content. I specified some points that were required for the pages to contain. I also specified essential parameters for pages to be more tailored and specific to the website's needs. The content for the legal disclaimer page was partially inspired by another rank and rent website (i.e. stgeorgeconcreteco.com)

The legal disclaimer is mainly about disclosing that the website has nothing to do with the people that service.

Sitemap Page

This page references all the pages on the website. This is good for SEO and very easy to implement. I implemented this sitemap so that Google's bot crawler can easily find all of my website's pages.

In the video below, Nick Wood discusses the pages you should implement in a rank and rent website. This video was helpful to me, so I am sharing it here.

Conclusion

When I built my website, I took a holistic approach in terms of the pages on it.

Had I known better, I would have followed Nick Wood's recommendations and only implemented the most important pages. The following are the pages I will set up in my future rank and rent endeavours:

  • Home
  • Services
  • Area
  • Contact
  • Privacy policy
  • Terms of service
